Labor Day Activities in the Catskills Mountains

Labor Day Activities in the Catskills Mountains

Celebrating an extended holiday weekend lends itself as a chance to start new family traditions. One of the better Labor Day escapes is in the Catskills Mountains of New York. Up in Windham, New York, is the Albergo Allegria Bed & Breakfast Hotel. Our luxurious rooms are ideal for small families and couples, and our 24-hour guest pantry is a great place to come back to after a day out. Here are some of the things that you can do to take advantage of your Labor Day Weekend.

Dining

For being high up in the mountains, the Catskills have access to delicious restaurants. If you’re craving chips and salsa, you’re in luck — Rock’n Mexicana will be able to fill that void. Just down the road is the reliable Michael’s Diner – Now Windham Diner where you could have breakfast food for lunch or a juicy burger. On the fancier side is Bistro Brie & Bordeaux, an authentic French restaurant. Even though you may feel far away from civilization, Windham NY restaurants will make you feel at home.

Mountain Biking

Of all the things to do in the Catskills, one of the more high-octane activities is mountain biking. Windham Mountain Bike Park has some of the best downhill biking terrains in the world. For experienced bikers, the Citizens Downhill trail has jumps, drops, and gaps; everything you would like in a challenging course. First-time or inexperienced bikers can participate in the Skills Park where the basics such as braking and bike control are main components.

Sightseeing

In the immediate area around our Catskills bed & breakfast are incredible sights rich with history and beauty to indulge in. Pratt Rock, known to some as “New York’s Mt. Rushmore” and “a monument of vanity,” dates back to the Civil War era. Check out the stone carvings and Zadock Pratt Museum to learn more of the history. If you are looking to see the mountains from a bird’s-eye view, make a short drive over to Hunter Mountain and take the Summit SkyRider Tour. It is the highest and longest zipline tour in all of North America, climbing over 600 feet high and over 4.6 miles long! You are bound to see incredible views and get your adrenaline pumping.

If you aren’t great with heights, there are other things to do in the Catskills. Trek along trails among any of the Catskill hikes on the nearby mountains or go down the Hudson River to get an up-close look at the Hudson-Athens Lighthouse.
