Over the years, Halloween has evolved from a single-day celebration to an entire month of spook-tacular fun. October is just around the corner, so it’s time to start making your Halloween bucket list. Albergo Allegria is quickly becoming the hotspot for Halloween fun because of our proximity to some of the best fall activities for kids. There’s no need to search for “Halloween activities near me,” when our Albergo Allegria staff knows the most fun places around!
The Old Game Farm
Opened in 1933, Old Catskill Game Farm was intended to hold 28 species of deer but quickly turned into a popular Catskills attraction. Visitors could explore the 3.5 miles of land and hand-feed over 2,000 animals, including giraffes, pygmy hippos, rhinos, wild horses, kangaroos, and many more! The zoo closed its doors in 2006, and Ben and Cathy Ballone bought the property. Today, guests can tour the abandoned pens, kiosks, and animal areas. You can even spend a night camping in the abandoned zoo.
A Turn of the Screw
Take your family to a spooky theatrical performance at the Kaaterskill Actors Theater. A Turn of the Screw is based on a classic ghost story written by Henry James. The play tells the story of a haunted mansion. The theater discourages children from attending this play, but use your best judgment! This performance runs through early November.
Kids Halloween Party
Another Catskills tradition is the Kids Halloween Party. This year, the bash will be held at the Shamrock House in East Durham. You and your family will enjoy Halloween events such as music, games, a magic show, and more! An adult Halloween party will follow the kid-friendly event. At both events, there will be lots of sweet treats to be in attendance.
Howl-o-ween Party
If you are a dog lover, you’ll especially love attending the UCSPCA Howl-o-ween Party in Kingston. Who said humans need to have all the fun? Dog owners dress their furry friends in costumes and bring them to this ghoulishly delightful event. The local shelter hosts a costume contest to judge the best-dressed pup! We encourage humans to attend in Halloween attire as well.
